PRE-ORDERS BEFORE POWER DEREGULATION

Japan is set to fully deregulate its electricity market in April. Companies entering the power retailing business are starting to accept pre-orders.
Major power utilities have enjoyed regional monopolies for decades. But legislative changes will allow other companies to enter the market and provide electricity for households.
Tokyo Gas and Osaka Gas are offering discounts if consumers sign up for both city gas and electricity services together. These firms began taking advance orders on Monday. Major convenience store chain operator Lawson is working with trading firm Mitsubishi Corporation. They'll start accepting pre-orders from households in February.
Meanwhile, major utilities are considering revising their rates to counter the competition from the newcomers. Tokyo Electric Power Company is planning to announce a new rate schedule as early as this month.

電力小売り自由化へ

日本では４月に電力小売りを全面的に自由化することが決まっており、電力事業に参入する企業が事前受け付けを始めています。
大手電力会社はここ数十年の間、地域独占による恩恵を受けてきました。しかし法改正で、他の会社も市場に参入し、家庭に電力を供給することが可能になるのです。
東京ガスと大阪ガスは、都市ガスと電気をセットで契約した場合に、割引料金を設定します。両社は、月曜日（１月４日）から事前受け付けを開始しました。大手コンビニチェーンを展開するローソンは三菱商事と提携して、２月に家庭からの事前受け付けを開始するとしています。
一方、大手電力会社も新規参入に対抗するために料金改定を検討しており、東京電力は早ければ今月中にも新たな料金プランを発表する計画です。
