BOOSTING ANTI-SMOKING EFFORTS

Japanese officials want more people to be aware of the dangers of smoking. They say they'll study ways to make warning labels on cigarette packaging more effective.
Authorities at the Finance Ministry will form a research panel. Packages now carry one of eight types of warnings about diseases linked to smoking. Panel members will consider adding new ones, and they'll discuss requiring manufacturers to make the warnings bigger.
On Monday, the World Health Organization released a report on tobacco use. It cited statistics claiming that nearly half of all Hollywood films in 2014 had smoking scenes. It recommended that movies with smoking scenes be restricted to adults.

日本政府は、喫煙の危険性をさらに多くの人に知ってもらうために、たばこのパッケージに記載されている警告表示をより効果的にする方法を検討することになりました。
財務省は、そのための研究部会を設置します。現在たばこのパッケージには、喫煙と病気との関係を示す８種類の警告表示のどれかが記載されています。研究部会では、警告表示の種類を追加することや、たばこメーカーに警告表示を大きくすることを求めることも検討することにしています。
一方、ＷＨＯ＝世界保健機関は、月曜日（２月１日）、喫煙に関する報告書を発表しました。報告書は、２０１４年のハリウッド映画の半分近くでたばこを吸うシーンがあるという調査結果を引用し、喫煙シーンのある映画を成人向けに指定するよう勧告しています。
