A wild male elephant in China's southwestern Yunnan Province gave tourists a Valentine's Day preview they will never forget.
Local authorities say the elephant lost a courtship battle against another male a few days earlier. It took to the streets from a nature reserve on Friday and destroyed 15 vehicles. No injuries were reported. The officials say it's rare for an elephant to wander so far from its habitat.
Numerous messages on the Chinese social media site Weibo expressed sympathy for the lovelorn giant ahead of Valentine's Day.

中国南西部・雲南省で野生の雄のゾウがとった行動は、バレンタインデーを前に、観光客にとって忘れられないものとなりました。
地元当局によりますと、このゾウは数日前に雌の取り合いに敗れたということで、金曜日（２月１２日）に自然保護区（の生息エリア）から道に出てきて、車１５台を破壊しました。けが人はありませんでした。自然保護区の管理事務所によりますと、ゾウが生息しているエリアからこれほど離れて歩き回ることはめったにないということです。
中国版ツイッター「ウェイボー」には、バレンタインデーを前に失恋したこのゾウに同情するメッセージが数多く寄せられました。
