MASS ANTI-GOVT. DEMOS IN BRAZIL

Millions of Brazilians have taken to the streets of the country's cities to demand the resignation of President Dilma Rousseff.
Local media reported that more than three million people across the country marched on Sunday. Nearly half of the protesters filled the streets of the business hub of Sao Paulo. They waved banners that read "Stop the corruption" and chanted calls for the president to step down.
Discontent with the Rousseff administration has been on the rise since prosecutors filed corruption charges against her backer, former President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. And the country's economic downturn due to falling resource prices has added to popular anger. The discontent spread to Rio de Janeiro, host city of the Olympic Games this coming summer.

The approval rating for Rousseff has plunged as low as 11 percent.

ブラジル 大統領退陣求め大規模デモ

何百万ものブラジルの人たちが、ジルマ・ルセフ大統領の退陣を求めて、複数の都市で街頭デモを繰り広げました。
地元メディアは、日曜日（３月１３日）に国中で３００万人以上の人々がデモに参加したと伝えています。このうち半数近くの人は、ビジネス拠点であるサンパウロでデモを行い、通りを埋め尽くしました。デモ参加者は「汚職をやめろ」と書かれた横断幕を掲げ、ルセフ大統領の退陣を繰り返し訴えました。
ルセフ政権に対する不満は、ルセフ大統領の後ろ盾であるルイス・イナシオ・ルーラ・ダ・シルヴァ前大統領が検察当局に訴追されて以来、高まり続けています。また、資源価格の下落でブラジルの景気が悪化していることも、国民の怒りを増幅させています。デモは、今夏にオリンピックが開かれるリオデジャネイロにも広がっています。
デモ参加者の１人は、「ブラジルの人は一団となって抗議しています。汚職も、生活苦に我慢するのも、もううんざりです。ブラジルは汚職撲滅を宣言することを決めました。だから、私たちは集まっているのです。腐敗した人には出ていってもらわないと」と話していました。
ルセフ政権の支持率は、１１パーセントにまで落ち込んでいます。
