The Bell of Requiem
(Translated by Sadao Mazuka)
We fought together against the enemy
To protect our country
You always wished happiness on your parents
But you died there in that foreign country
Listen to the sound of the bell
We ring it to repose your soul
So sleep soundly, my dear friends!
We moved and moved to many battle fields
And we barely won in those severe battles
You always wished to raise your children
But you died there in the Tropical Ocean
Listen to the sound of the bell
We ring it to repose your soul
So sleep soundly, my dear friends!
You always talked to us about your home town
How lived your beloved family there
Our troops went to the North Country
But you died there on the cold tundra
Listen to the voices of the prayers
We elected the bell tower
So sleep soundly, my dear friends¡ª
[So sleep soundly, my dear friends¡ª](2008.8.25)
Many people died in World War ¶, wishing glory on our country.
But we believe that they also warned us against useless world war.
The progress and peace in Japan after the war, was achieved by their supreme sacrifice.
They never boast, but they are in instead silent forever.
