A Lighthouse Keeper

Here on a remote cape, a lighthouse stands
I keep the beacon lamp with my beloved wife
We wish for the safety of all ships on this channel all days

Sea birds are crying and telling that winter comes
Here is the northern-end of a snowy district
We hear the blowing of whistle from the offing in the stormy night

On this lonely island the southern wind comes
The wind brings fragrance of many spring flowers
We recall the memories of our hometown far from here nostalgically

Every morning and evening, the departing and arrival of ships
“Don't cry and be patient with our loneliness, my dear!”
I cheered-up all of my family in the burning and humid summer

Counted stars in the sky, heard the roaring of the sea
I worked in several lighthouses for long, long years
And much pleasure and sorrow rise up in my mind as fond of memories(2010.7.28)
