The Mysterious Strong Boy Japanese
Long, long ago, there lived a strong giant in a village. He prided himself on his strength. He had never been defeated when he had sumo bouts in his village. He wanted to meet some strong men and have sumo bouts with them. He happened to hear that a sumo-tournament would be held in Edo. One day, he decided to take part in the tournament, and headed to Edo.
While he was seeing the sights of Edo, people who saw him ran into their houses, saying,
"Monster, a monster is coming! Let's get out of here!"
He got puffed up with pride and passed by a terakoya (a private elementary school in the Edo period, which taught mostly reading, writing and arithmetic), singing loudly, pulling trees and kicking down walls and fences on the streets.
Then a little boy came out of the terakoya and said to the giant,
"Hey, man! Be quiet! Walk quietly!"
"You are a cheeky little boy!" saying so, he dashed for the boy and tried to kick him.
However, as the boy dodged the giant, he stumbled and fell forward. The boy caught the giant by the leg and tossed him up into the sky. His big body was thrown like a rock and fell down unconscious.
"What a strong boy he is!" those present there exclaimed.
Though the injured man recovered his consciousness a few minutes later, he couldn't move because he had his hipbone broken.
sumo The next day he was carried to the guardhouse and he talked to the officer about the little boy,
"I've never seen such a strong boy before. I can't join the tournament any more."
"It's a surprise that there is such a strong boy in Edo."
The officer said so, and made a bulletin board to put here and there in Edo,

Any boy who is confident of one's power as well as the sumo-wrestler can participate in the sumo tournament.

 However, as there was no boy that offered to participate, the officers hunted Edo for the boy in vain.
"I've never seen such a boy in this neighborhood."
Everyone, who was asked by the officers, answered so.
Soon he was believed to be the young Buddha who appeared to punish the wild giant.(2013/05/1 With Itaya)
